FIDM Instructor Combines Art, Architecture and Interior Design to Inspire Students

Computer Graphics
instructor, Michael Allyn Roy, whose skills are utilized in both the Digital Media and Interior Design programs at FIDM, enjoys teaching at FIDM because it's an exciting, vibrant place filled with many hardworking students.

Before becoming an instructor, Mike ran his own multi-disciplinary design practice for many years, working in architecture, interior design, industrial design, animation, and art direction for TV and movies. In the '80s, he was one of a number of animators hired by the human rights organization Amnesty International to create short films that were shown on giant monitors on a world-wide concert tour by Bruce Springsteen, Sting, and Peter Gabriel.

Mike is very proud of his current work as a fine artist: a series of monoprints that represent a memorial for the lives lost on September 11, recently displayed in a one-man exhibition at the Smyth Gallery in Pasadena, California. As inspiration for his art, he listens to a great deal of music and pursues many different activities including playing in a ukulele band and ice skating several times a week. His active body and spirit make Mike a popular instructor at FIDM.
