Imagine getting hired to design a room in an historical mansion. Think romantic terraces, a library, and even a nursery suite. It would be a dream come true, right? Well this year, FIDM Interior Design alumni, students, and instructors were selected to do just that with not just one, but two elegant homes—the Pasadena Showcase House and the Philharmonic Design House.

For both annual projects, top professionals from the design community unite to transform the house and grounds of a magnificent estate. Participation is by invitation only. Once the work is completed, patrons attend a benefit event where they are treated to a tour of the rooms and gardens. Proceeds from the events go to local cultural programs.

Pasadena Showcase House of Design

FIDM alums and instructors wereinvolved in the design and furnishing of rooms such as the library, the master bedroom suite, and the living room in this year's 1923 Spanish Colonial Revival home.

For over 25 years, FIDM students have been given the unique opportunity to design the restaurant area in the Pasadena Showcase House. This year, they designed both the "La Cocina Divina" restaurant and the Showcase ticket booth.

The students completed their portion of the hands-on project as part of a class. Responsibilities included designing a concept for the room, solicitation of accessories, installation, and breaking down the room at the end of the show.

The Philharmonic Design House
(Chelsea Manor)

This year is FIDM's first at Chelsea Manor in Orange County. The child's suite in this English Country manor was designed and furnished under the direction of FIDM instructors Randy Hatch and Candace Donnel. FIDM students assisted in fabric selection and installation. The room also featured furniture designed by FIDM student Zoe Sibley and a child's dress designed by FIDM student Annie Sokoloff.

Participation in these prestigious events is another way in which FIDM provides unique opportunities for our students to gain hands-on experience as well as exposure in the industry. To find out more about FIDM's Interior Design program, visit the Interior Design Major on FIDM.com
