Alumni in Focus
Kiyra Henderson
FIDM Merchandise Product Development Grad Kiyra Henderson works for Sole Technology, Inc., an Action Sports manufacturer, where she is a Product Developer for Apparel. Her responsibilities include such hip brands as Etnies and Etnies Girl, for which she helps create denim, bottoms, tops, outerwear, and fleece. Kiyra found out about FIDM while searching schools on the Internet, and says, “I had a great experience at FIDM!”
What led you to choose FIDM?
Most of my life I have been creative: drawing and experimenting with different mediums. Fashion overall is something that I enjoy. It fuses music, lifestyle, fantasy, and reality. Going to college to fuse all those things together made sense. FIDM had everything that I was looking for regarding education.
What did you like most about FIDM?
I appreciate the Alumni community and the job leads that the school provides.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy watching style go from paper to actual product, then being able to see it in magazines, then in the stores. It’s a sense of accomplishment to see design go through all the different stages.
Professionally, what do you see yourself doing in five years?
In five years I see myself still in the Action Sports market, possibly managing a team, or maybe getting into merchandising.
