James Glenny
Enjoys To Be Challenged By His Students
Professor James Glenny has been an instructor at
FIDM since July 1998. He teaches Organizational Behavior & Management, Retail
Concepts, Career Life Planning, Psychology, English Composition, and Retail
Store Operations. He was voted 'best' faculty member in the Merchandise-Marketing
department by the graduating classes of June 1999 and June 2000. Prior to
teaching at FIDM James was an adjunct faculty member at California State University,
Northridge, College of Extended Learning. Mr. Glenny also served as Vice President
of Personnel for Frederick's of Hollywood, President of the Personnel
Group, Director of Employee Benefits Services at the Carter Hawley
Hale Stores and director of Personnel Administration at The Broadway.
Mr. Glenny received his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Idaho in Educational Psychology, his Masters degree in the same subject from the University of Southern California and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Business Administration at Kensington University. Professor Glenny's civic and business involvements include memberships in such organizations as: National Retail Federation's Committee on Employment Law and its Government and Legal Affairs Committee, Vice President's Club of the Society for Human Resource Management, Traveler's Aide Society (past first president), and Teen Canteen of Los Angeles (chair of its Personnel Committee).
Mr. Glenny says that he likes teaching at FIDM because 'The students are there for a purpose. It is gratifying to teach students who not only have a willingness to learn, but want to dig in. They don't come to class to just be entertained and they're not satisfied with just listening. They challenge me and participate in open discussions until they understand the topics covered. Night students seem to be very dedicated to learning, which is what I like to see. I think students should be willing and open to learn and get everything they can out of the class, rather than just sitting back. They should always participate. It's ok to fall down and then get up running. Students need to be well rounded and not only willing to learn but to keep learning so they never stagnate. I would some day like to see my former students being CEOs of major companies.'
Professor Glenny's wife, Myrna, also works at FIDM, as the Director of the FIDM Scholarship Foundation. Together they have one son, Kevin and a 'spoiled' dog, Pricilla, (a two time 'throw - away' from the Pasadena Humane Society). James categorizes himself as a retailer by career, an Educational Psychologist by Education and a Human Resources Manager by profession. He is a well - respected member of FIDM's faculty as well as a qualified and gifted educator.
