FIDM Spreads Some Holiday Cheer!

Los Familias del Pueblo & FIDM host holiday party

One hundred children from Los Familias del Pueblo in Downtown Los Angeles took part in a holiday party with FIDM staff on December 7, 2001. FIDM alumni and Graphic Design instructor John Urquiza donned a Santa suit and took photos with children while members of the FIDM Career Center dressed as elves and acted as Santa's Helpers.

Children took part in arts and crafts projects such as making picture frames and assembling necklaces fashioned out of buttons and beads. "It was a great party," said Alice Callaghan, who runs Los Familias. "FIDM brought really nice things for the children and they did a great job."

Thanks to corporate supporters such as the Staples Center, Old Navy, Hasbro, and Giant Merchandise, FIDM was able to assemble gift bags to give away to partygoers. Children were thrilled to receive items such as Kobe Bryant basketball jerseys, T-shirts, and Harry Potter merchandise.

Los Familias del Pueblo is a non-profit community center serving garment workers and their children in the Los Angeles Fashion District. At Los Familias, children participate in after school programs, receive assistance with homework, and take part in various activities.
