Ask Fashion Girl
Dear Fashion Girl,
Dear Fashion Girl,
Next year at school we have to wear uniforms. Could you please help me with some cool looks but with these requirements. We can only wear white, navy, and hunter green. I think all these colors are really blah. Can you please help me!?!
Thanks, Uniform Girl
Dear Uniform Girl,
You are faced with a major fashion challenge! Here are some tips on creating cool looks within the boundaries of a school uniform.
First of all, get one of each of the pieces your uniform can be made up of, including skirts, pants, shorts, shirts, sweaters, and jackets. That way you can mix and match. Also get one of each of all the colors you are allowed, especially if you can go a few shades lighter or darker within the same color range. Hunter green could be interpreted as khaki green! Focus on the parts of your school outfit that you can change. Can you choose your own shoes, socks, tights, or jackets? If so, you can express your own style through them. Wear some patterned tights and chunky maryjanes for the cool schoolgirl look. Or go with white socks and a soft, feminine cardigan for a 50's look. Change your hairstyle and makeup for variety. Also, if you can wear jewelry, pick some cool necklaces, earrings, and hair clips to counteract the simplicity of your school uniform.
Remember that "uniform" doesn't have to mean "conform." You can still find ways to express your individual style. School uniforms aren't all bad. Just think of all the time and frustration you will save in the mornings when you can just roll out of bed and have your outfit ready to go! Good luck!
