You want to look for timeless pieces that won't quickly go out of style. Buy a few key pieces that will work with any formal outfit, like a simple yet elegant pearl necklace and earrings. If you like gold and silver, it's good to have some of both. Get one of each of a medium-weight silver and gold chain. Then you can add trendy beads and trinkets to them as they come and go. Also look for accessories in basic black that are not extremely wild; simple items that don't call too much attention to themselves. Accessory shop at whatever discount stores are in your area.
