Ask Fashion Girl
Dear Fashion Girl,
Dear Fashion Girl:
I’d love to get involved in the beauty industry, but how do I do it? I want a real job, not one at the cosmetics counter.
Sincerely, Vanessa
Dear Vanessa:
Even though it isn’t where you want to end up, getting a retail job at the cosmetics counter is really the best way to get a leg up in the beauty industry. And it isn’t always that easy to get those jobs! What you can do is start by taking any kind of retail job that you can, with the eventual goal of getting a job at a beauty counter when you have more work experience. Working at the retail level in the beauty industry is practically a must for moving up in the corporate division. So start building your resume with retail experience and you'll be in a very good position when you come to a fashion college like FIDM to get your degree. FIDM’s Beauty Industry Merchandising & Marketing degree can get you inside the corporate world of beauty, where you’ll be involved in the making and marketing of makeup and skin-, hair-, and body-care products.
Sincerely,
