FIDM Library

Not your typical college library

The FIDM Library provides a variety of resources and services focused on meeting the unique information and research needs of the FIDM community. The Library is staffed by a team of librarians and specialists who provide instruction, reference, and other research support services. The resources and services are curated to support the program majors. The Library maintains large and diverse collections including an extensive collection of books, trend reports, and magazines, as well as fabric swatches, trims, and findings for projects, and examples of innovative and sustainable materials and designs. The Library’s electronic resource collections include research databases and eBooks that are accessible on and off-campus, as well as on mobile devices, ensuring the Library’s resources are always available to inform and inspire.

Library Catalog

Books

The collection of print and electronic titles encompasses all subject areas, with emphasis on fashion, business and marketing, interior design, retailing, and costumes.

Periodicals

The Library subscribes to over 200 magazines and trade publications, including editions of Vogue from several countries. In addition to fashion magazines, we have publications for industries such as footwear, beauty, textiles, jewelry and interior design.

Newspaper Clipping Files

The Library maintains an archive of newspaper and magazine articles covering the fashion industry from about 1975 to today.

Trend Reports

The Library subscribes to several trend forecasting services, special industry publications that help readers understand the direction of design and consumer behavior.

Special Collections

Special Collections houses 19th and 20th century fashion and interior design periodicals, unique and out-of-print books, original fashion sketches, and material on the California apparel industry.

Textiles & Design Research

The Library provides a variety of resources offering students practical experience with the tools and materials they will use as professionals, including innovative materials (e.g., bamboo, coffee, milk proteins, etc), an extensive collection of fabric swatches, trims, and findings for projects.

Research Databases

The FIDM Library subscribes to numerous online databases that support the program majors FIDM offers, including trend forecasting services like WGSN, as well as online industry news resources like Women's Wear Daily (WWD) and California Apparel News.

Library Hours

The Library is open Monday — Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and closed Saturday and Sunday.

No appointment is needed.
